On Friday October 27, students in Mrs. Wegner’s second grade class participated in a place value hospital. We have been working on place value, adding, and subtracting. The place value hospital was a fun activity where students could practice place value. Students worked in groups to complete four different activities. The first activity was Number Surgery where students had to build numbers. The next activity was Pharmacy Sort where students were asked to compare numbers using greater than, less than and equal to. The third activity had x-rays where students had to count the numbers in order. In Symptom Check, students were given clues and they had to guess the correct number. When asked what their favorite activities were, Jackson shared, “My favorite part was the mixed up x-rays,” and Estela shared “My favorite part was the pharmacy sort. I liked comparing numbers.”
We both think that other classes should do the place value hospital because it is a fun way to practice place value.
