As the first quarter of the school year comes to a close, we want to recognize all of our Sharks for working hard on being CHAMPS so they can be the best learners they can be.
This year, we’ve implemented the CHAMPS management system schoolwide as a way to support our school charter to ensure all of our students feel welcome, supported, and safe. We are thrilled to report on its success so far this year!
CHAMPS is an acronym that stands for:
– Conversation: Can students converse during this activity?
– Help: How do students get help if they need it?
– Activity: What is the task or objective?
– Movement: Can students move around?
– Participation: What does participation look like?
– Success: When students follow expectations, they will be successful!
Benefits We’re Seeing
- Clearer Expectations: Students know exactly what’s expected of them during different activities.
- Increased Independence: With clear guidelines, students are becoming more self-reliant.
- Improved Focus: Our classroom is calmer and more focused on learning.
- Consistency: CHAMPS provides a consistent framework across all our activities.
- Better Time Management: Transitions between activities are becoming smoother and quicker.
- Enhanced Communication: Students are more aware of appropriate times and methods for communication.
How You Can Help
You can reinforce CHAMPS at home by asking your child about our classroom expectations. Encourage them to explain what CHAMPS means and how they follow it in class.
