On Tuesday, August 27, Schafer Elementary School buzzed with excitement during its annual Curriculum Night. The evening kicked off with a high-energy student performance that filled the gym with music, rhythm, and school spirit. Families, teachers, and students came together to celebrate the new school year and gain insight into classroom learning plans.
Third, fourth, and fifth-grade students stole the show with performances they had been practicing since the first week of school. Under the direction of music teacher Ms. Holman, students dazzled the crowd with body percussion routines, rhythm sticks, and Boomwhackers. Each grade took turns showcasing their talent before coming together to sing the school song in unison, bringing the performance to a heartwarming close. The gym echoed with applause and cheers from proud families, whose energy matched that of the young performers.
Following the musical celebration, families transitioned to classrooms where teachers shared curriculum goals and expectations for the year ahead. This part of the evening offered a valuable opportunity for parents to connect with educators and better understand how to support their children’s academic growth. A hands-on “Reading and Thinking” make-it-take-it craft encouraged families to explore reading comprehension strategies they could use at home.
To cap off the evening, everyone enjoyed a sweet treat—popsicles for all. The event concluded with students, families, and staff mingling outside, enjoying the late summer weather and reflecting on a successful night. Curriculum Night at Schafer Elementary not only informed but inspired, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.
