Wildcat Jazz Tour

On Friday March 24th, the Jefferson Wildcat Jazz Ensemble led by Mrs. Rachel Kayser and Mrs. Chris Wallbruch traveled to the elementary schools for their Spring Jazz Tour. The Wildcat Jazz Ensemble is a before school rehearsal group made up of students who have played for 3-5 years. These lessons have an emphasis on jazz literature, style, and improvisation. The Jazz Ensemble performed for the 3rd-5th grade students at North and Schafer Elementary Schools, with the help of Mr. Zach Coronado on the trumpet. The ensemble played four songs including: Swingin’ with Jack, Our First Blues, Sweet Georgia Brown, and the staff’s favorite, Sweet Caroline. In between songs, the elementary students were able to ask questions. Getting to see the Wildcats perform sparked the interest of some of the younger Sharks. One third grade student shared that they couldn’t wait to be able to play an instrument next year. At Schafer, the sharks not only got a great performance from the Wildcats, but they also got to see Mr. Robert, their head custodian, show off some of his drumming skills. The Schafer teachers especially love the annual tours as it is an opportunity to see former students and see how much they have grown. They may be a Wildcat now, but once a shark, always a shark.
