On Monday April 8, 2024, our Sharks were filled with excitement to see the near-total solar eclipse. In the days leading up to the special event, classes spent time preparing and practicing how to safely watch the solar eclipse. Our kindergarten and first grade students even made their own eclipse glasses using a paper plate for some extra added protection. On Monday, students couldn’t wait to get outside for the rare event. Once outside, students put on their glasses and participated in the viewing of the near-total eclipse with almost 94% of the sun covered, which will mark the closest our area will have to totality in decades. As students waited for the maximum eclipse to occur at 2:07pm, they spent time comparing the changes in the sun and seeing the differences in shadows due to the eclipse. This event is something that we all will remember for years to come.
