Get to Know Our Sharks: STARS Team Edition

Zach Johnson

Mr. Zach Johnson is one of our newest sharks! He joins the STARS team working with students in 2nd-5th grade. 

Mr. Johnson shares that his favorite part about being in education is the impact he is able to make on the lives of others. When he thinks about his own school experience, he shares that his favorite teacher was Mr. Hartnett because he taught him how to be happy in life even when those around you are not. If he could choose one teacher’s class to enroll in for a day, he would choose Mrs. Johanson. 

Mr. Johnson wants our Sharks to know to be Kind, even to those who may not be kind to you. His wish for the 2023-24 school year is to have a positive and happy school year!

Family: Two older sisters, one living in London and the other living close by in Lisle

Surprising fact: I’m typically younger than most people think

LeAnn MacDonald 

Mrs. Mac is a veteran shark on the STARS team working with K-2 students. 

Mrs. Mac shares that her favorite part about being in education is learning from her students and families. When she thinks about her own school experience, she shares that her favorite teacher was her second grade teacher, Mrs. Jorganson. She always made time to listen to her stories and had lots of books to read.  

Mrs. Mac wants our Sharks to know to be kind to everyone. Her wish for the 2023-24 school year is to learn about her students and families.

Family: She has been married for almost 6 years and has two children, Millie (1.5 years old) and Urbank (4 months).

Favorite food/restaurant: Italian 

Favorite sports team: Bears

Favorite music: County music

Favorite place visited: Italy

Surprising fact: I don’t have any brothers or sisters

Favorite quote: I am only one; but I am still one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. I will not refuse to do the something I can do.

 

 

Laura Johanson

Mrs. Johanson is a veteran shark on the STARS team working with students in grades 2-5.

Mrs. Johanson shares that her favorite part about being in education has always been and always will be THE KIDS! When she thinks about her own school experience, she shares that her favorite teacher was Mrs. Sikula, her first grade teacher. She made learning fun and encouraged our curiosity about the world around us. If she could choose one teacher’s class to enroll in for a day, she would choose Mrs. Mac’s class because she is such an animated and fun teacher and always plans the best activities for her lessons!

Mrs. Johanson wants our Sharks to know to enjoy your childhood! Don’t be in a rush to grow up! Her wish for the 2023-24 school year is to continue to grow as a teacher and learn as much from my students as they hopefully learn from her.

Years in education: 22 years – 18 as a teacher

Birthday: 8/25

Family: I have been married to my husband for 12 years, we have 2 kids (Ryan – 9, 4th grade and Emily – 7, 2nd grade). We also have 2 dogs, Oakley and Baily, both rescue dogs.

Favorite school subject: Math

Favorite color: Blue

Favorite pet: Dogs!!!

Favorite hobby: Read, I read as many books as I can in my free time!

Favorite drink: Diet coke and/or Iced coffee

Favorite food/restaurant: Pizza! Lou Malnatis

Favorite sports team: Chicago Cubs/Chicago Bears

Favorite music: Country and Pop

Favorite place visited: Door County is my favorite summer place to visit. We hang out on the beach, go fishing, explore state parks and have lots of quality family time

Angela Voss

Mrs. Voss is a veteran shark and is the social worker for the STARS team. She also works with the STARS program and Jefferson and the multineeds at Westmore this year. 

Mrs. Voss shares that her favorite part about being in education is getting to know the students and their families. She enjoys helping them connect to resources and seek the best for their children throughout the school year and at parent nights. 

 

Fun Facts:

Years in education: Social worker at Schafer for 10 years. 

Birthday: 6/15

Family: She has been married to Matt for 27 years. They have 21 year old twin boys, Justin and Tyler who are seniors in college. They also have a son Carter who is 17 and a senior in high school. 

Favorite hobby: Spending time with family and friends; playing games, trying new restaurants, and going on vacations together. 

Favorite music: All types of music, but especially enjoy when the Voss band plays at our yearly summer friends/family cookout. We have Matt on guitar/vocals, Justin on Bass, Tyler on Electric and Carter on drums.

Favorite place visited: Costa Rica

Dream vacation: She enjoys any type of beach vacation. 

 

 

Karen Crowley

Mrs. Crowley is a veteran shark and is the school psychologist for the STARS team at Schafer. She is also the bilingual psychologist for the district. 

Mrs. Crowley shares that her favorite part about being in education is the start of every school year. She loves the fresh start with great kids and families. She also loves the vibe of a school and the good energy. When she thinks about her own school experience, she shares that she had so many good teachers along the way. 

 

Fun Facts:

Years in education: 37 years

Birthday: 10/30

Family: She has been married 32 years. She met her husband in college and they have three daughters who are in their 20s and out working in the world (one who is a 3rd grade teacher)

Favorite school subject: Reading

Favorite color: Blue 

Favorite pet: Dogs

Favorite hobby: Playing tennis/pickleball, reading, hiking, long walks

Favorite drink: Diet Coke Fountain Drink

Favorite food/restaurant: Thin Crust Pizza

Favorite place visited: Machu Picchu in Peru

Dream vacation: Warm weather vacation with lots of time for exploring

Favorite quote: May today there be peace within, may you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be, may you use the gifts that you have received and pass on the love that has been given to you. 

 

 

Kelly Moscicki

Mrs. Moscicki is a veteran shark and is the speech pathologist for the STARS team. 

Her wish for the 2023-24 school year is to see lots of progress with staff knowledge of AAC and independence with our kids using communication devices.

Birthday: 8/10

Family: Married for 23 years with 3 kids. Evan 20, Molly 18 and Maeve 15.

Favorite teacher: Her kindergarten teacher

Sophia Crabtree

Ms. Crabtree is one of our newest sharks! She joins the STARS team working with K-2 students.

Ms. Crabtree shares that her favorite part about being in education is watching her students grow. She wants our Sharks to know we can do hard things! Her wish for the 2023-24 school year is for her students to reach all of their goals and have an amazing school year!

Years in education: 1st year!

Birthday: 9/12

Family: She has an older sister who works at an ABA clinic. Her mom is a retired teacher and her dad works in logistics. She has the sweetest dog, named Grumpy, who is four years old.
